f(x) = x2 + 1 upward 6 units.


What is the corresponding equation g(x) which shows the shift upward of the parabola?

a) (x+6)^2 + 1
b) (x-6)^2 + 1
c) x^2 + 7

  Y →Y -6   then graph shifts 6 units up      If you make table of content
 
 
        X l  X ^2 + 1 l X^2 + 7  
        0 l     1          l   7
        1 l     2          l   8 
        2 l     5          l  11
        3 l   10          l  16
 
      If you graph each curve of X^2 + 1 , X^2 + 7 you will see the shift.
 
      Rule   X → X - a    Curve shifts a unit to the right
 
               Y → Y -a     Curve shifts a units up.
