Probability is defined as:  (number of successful events) / (number of possible events)

 

Experimental Probability is based on the results of an experiment, but be careful to consider total events.

 

Billy has experienced a rate of catfish to total fish of 10/14.  This is 5/7.   So, if this rate continues, he could expect the probability of catching a catfish to be:  P(catfish) = 5/7.

    (note: and the probability of catching a trout is 2/7; the total = 1)
