2(3x+2)=8x-2
Distribute the 2 through the parenthesis
2(3x)+2(2) = 8x-2
6x + 4 = 8x - 2
subtract 6x from both sides
6x-6x+4 = 8x-6x-2
4 = 2x - 2
add 2 to both sides
4+2 = 2x - 2 + 2
6 = 2x
divide both sides by 2
6/2 = 2x/2
3 = x
x = 3

Hi Kaylee,
Distribute 2*(3x + 2)
= 6x + 4
6x + 4 = 8x - 2
2x = 6
x = 3
This also answers your other question, which is the same! Please don't post twice.

2*(3x + 2) = 8x-2
6x + 4 = 8x -2
4 = 8x - 6x - 2
4 + 2 = 8x - 6x
6 = 2x
6/2 = x
3 = x

2*(3x+2) = 8x-2 Distribute the 2* to each part of the parenthesis
6x+4 = 8x-2 Combine the xs by subtracting 8x from each side. That will bring it over to the left side since when you subtract it from the right side it will equal 0. 6x-8x = -2x
-2x+4 = -2 Subtract the 4 from each side to separate it from the x. That will bring it over to the right side since when you subtract it from the left side it will equal 0. ( (-2) - 4 = (-6) )
-2x = -6 Divide each side by (-2) to get the x by itself. -6 divided by -2. Negative divided by a negative equals a positive.
x=3
