Function: A function is a set of mathematical operations performed on one or more inputs (variables) that results in an output.

The solutions are 12 and 6

addition equation:

x-3=3

x-6+0=3+3

x+0=6

x+6

check:

x-0=6

6-0=6

6=6

subtraction method:

x + 6=12

x +6-6=12-6

x+0=6

x=6

check:

x + 6= 12

6+6=12

12=12

If I understand correctly, there are three problems that you want me to check.

 

First, you are asking if your definition of a function is correct.  The only thing that I would change about your definition is that I would add the fact that each input (or set of inputs) will prouce only one output.

 

Secondly, you are demonstrating how to solve an addition problem.  You have some problems with your steps.  I think the steps you want to write are as follows:

1.  x - 3 = 3

2.  x - 3 + 3 = 3 + 3

3.  x + 0 = 6

4.  x = 6

Check:

1.  x - 3 = 3

2.  6 - 3 = 3

3.  3 = 3

For the third problem, I think you are demonstrating your ability to solve subtraction problems.  Your work looks completely accurately for this problem.

 

As a separate note, I recommend that you write numbers next to your steps (like I did) when you are wanting someone to check your work.  It helps the tutor reference the steps in our recommendations to you.

First of all, I agree with John that a function has one output.
The way I was taught, back in the day, is that when you move a number (or variable from one side of the equals sign to the other, you reverse the sign.

So, I finish the x-3=3 in one step. Move the -3 across, and make it a +3 and you get 6. X=6

Similarly, x+6=12 is solved by moving the integer, 6 across and making it -6, so 12-6 = 6. X = 6

I don't see the need for all the fancy terms for methods of solving these problems. Just remember to change the sign when crossing over the equals.  Why make it harder than it is?
