If water poured out of a container, height of new water level

Question

A rectangular container measuring 40cm (length) by 25 cm (width) by 47 cm (height) is filled with water to its brim.  If 25 L is poured out of the container, what is the height of the new water level?

Answer 1

Calculate the volume, when full, in cubic cm.

 

Calculate reduced volume, subtracting from the above the 25,000 cubic cm poured out (since one liter is 1000 cc).

 

New volume = LWh where h is the new water level (height), and L and W are the original (fixed) measurements.

 

Solve for h, new height in cm.
