Will you settle for thinking about the problem rather than the answer?

 

I'm taking it literally.  That is, it says "what fraction" of the wall, and does not say "how many square feet."  There's a big difference between those.  Think about that a minute.  (I do hope that wording is exactly like the problem.)

 

If 4 students shared a pie, what fraction of the pie would each get?  It's the same answer.

I agree with Kay on this one. If that is how the question is worded, the 30 ft² is unnecessary information.
