Find Four consecutive odd integers such that 4 times the sum of the first and fourth is 3 greater than 7 times the third?

Let the numbers be equal to x, x+2, x+4 and x+6 (because they are consecutive and odd. Think of 1, 3, 5 and 7 )

 

The rest is just converting the words to the language of math

4*(x+(x+6)) = 7*(x+4) + 3  

4*(2x+6) = 7x+28+3

8x + 24 = 7x + 31

8x = 7x + 7 (subtracted 24 from each side)

x = 7 (subtracted 7x from each side)
