the last line contains "is stand goes scored 101 points" probably should be "if Standoff U scored 101 points."

 

Let x = # 3 pointers, so 45-x is # of 2 pointers.  Let u = # of 1 pointers (free throws) made.

 

101 = 2(45-x) + 3x + u  

101 = 90 - 2x + 3x - u    

 11 = x + u.

 

Solvable only if we know how many free throws were made. The problem does NOT state that 101 points were made only from various field goals.

A = number of two pointers

B = number of three pointers

 

A + B = 45

2A + 3B = 101

 

Multiply the first equation by -2 and add to the second equation

 

-2A - 2B = -90

2A  +3B = 101

 

B = 11

A = 45 -B = 34;
