The trick is interpreting what the question is asking.
60 - 2x = 20 (Twice a number means 2x, subtracting from means we need to subtract this number from another number which is 60, and finally doing so will give us an answer of 20)
Now that we have the question in equation form, we can solve for x. Start by subtracting 60 from both sides:
-2x = -40
Now we divide by -2 to both sides:
x = 20
Check by putting the answer into the variable for the equation:
60 - 2 * 20 = 20
60 - 40 = 20
20 = 20
