This operation can be condensed into the following: To isolate a variable, you can TRANSPOSE a term, moving it to the opposite side of the equation, where it then takes on the OPPOSITE SIGN.

The Proof of this is to ADD THE OPPOSITE (additive inverse) of said term to each side. Q.E.D.

Using this, you will soon be able to do grownup algebra, without having to put -4.7 underneath each side of an equation when written on paper or a whiteboard or a computer screen or even a blackboard (if such things still exist).
