Question

A rectangular solar panel has a length that is 11 inches shorter than 3 times its width. If the perimeter of the panel is 178 inches, what are the dimensions of the panel.
The width of the panel is ?

Hi Anna,

          I you let w=width and l= length of the panel and p=perimeter =178. Then l=3w-11 and P=2l+2w

So 178=2(3w-11)+2w

178=6w-22+2w

178=8w-22

8w=200

w=25" and l=64"
