Hi Nejia, work problems are solved by finding out how much work each party does in one hour. Here, Mr. Sharrone does 1/3rd of the work in one hour. His assistant does 1/5th of the work in one hour.
If Mr. Sharrone works alone for one hour, he completes 1/3rd of the work, leaving 2/3rds to be completed.
His assistant will have to complete the remaining work. We are looking for the time it will take him to complete the work, or t.
Then:
1/5 * t = 2/3 ( the remaining work to complete)
Solve for t:
Cross-multiply gives:
3t = 10
t = 3 and 1/3 hours.
Mr. Sharrone's assistant will need an additional 3 and 1/3 hours to complete the work.
