Eight times a number equals thirty five more than the number. Find the number

I need help on my Math 1 homework, they are word problems with Variables on Both sides.

Assume X is the number, then the question is

 

8X = X +35

Subtracting X from both sides leaves

 

7X = 35

 

dividing both sides by 7 leaves

 

X = 35/7 = 5
