asked 01/27/17Write the function's formula.
Naoya read a book cover to cover in a single session, at a rate of 55 pages per hour. After 4 hours, he had 350pages left to read. Let P(t)P(t)P, left parenthesis, t, right parenthesis denote the number of pages to read PPP as a function of time ttt (measured in hours).

The reading rate as a function of time is simply:
P(t) = 55 pages per hour
P(t) = 55t
----------------------------------------------------
The time it will take to finish the 350 pages left to read:
t = (350 pages) ÷ (55 pages per hour) = 6 20/55 hours
= 6 4/11 hours
4/11 of an hour = (4/11)(60 mins per hour) = 21 9/11 mins
9/11 mins = (9/11)(60 secs per min) = 49 secs
Given a nonstop reading without breaks at a speed of
55 pages per hour it will take another 6 hours 21 mins 49 secs
to finish the last 350 pages.
----------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to determine the total number of pages
in the book:
Total pages T is found by:
T = 55(4) + 350 = 570 pages in the book
