Joe is 15 kg lighter than Mike, who is 12 kg heavier than Nicolas.

Joe is 15 kg lighter than Mike, who is 12 kg heavier than Nicolas. If Mike's weight is 46 kg, what is the total weight of Joe, Mike, and Nicolas?

Well, if we know that Mike is 46kg and Joe is 15kg lighter than him, then Joe is 31kg (46 - 15).  Using similar logic for Nicholas, how much does Nicholas weigh? Once you know that, you can add up each of the weights to get to your final answer.

That's right, because Nicholas is 34kg (46 - 12), and 46 + 31 + 34 = 111
