In your math class, are you learning to choose a letter to represent an unknown quantity? That's the key to simple algebra problems.

 

Let w be the width; then the length has to be 2w-4, according to the first sentence.  BTW: it's should be its because it's only means "it is."

 

Now we know area = 70 = w(2w-4) and we have a quadratic equation.  I trust you know what to do now.

 

Hint: factoring will probably be involved, after getting all terms on one side of the equation.
