Please help me answer a math question

A dolphin calf swims at a depth of -7/4 feet from the sea surface. An adult dolphin swims at a depth 5/3 times the depth at wich the calf swims.what is the depth in feet of the adult dolphin from tge sea surface?

Also note the depth was -7/4   so   the final depth is -35/12 or - 2 11/12
indicating the dolphin is below the surface, hence the negative.

Yes.  If you define a coordinate system where the surface is zero and depth is negative, the adult dolphin swims at -35/12 feet, which corresponds to 35/12 feet below surface.
