If Dylan lost 12.5 points on his test but still received a 100% because of extra credit points, then the extra credit points must have totaled, 12.5 points to make up for the lost points on the main part of the test.

If he lost 121/2 points from 100, he had to gain 121/2 points to get back to 100. So the extra credit had to be +121/2 points.
