(vegetables₂)-(potatoes)=(onions₁)-(onions₂)

4.650-2.500=3.750-x

2.150=3.750-x

Let's subtract 3.750 from both sides...

2.150-3.750=3.750-3.750-x

-1.600=-x

Let's multiply both sides by -1...

(-1)(-1.600)=(-1)(-x)

1.600=x

 

Let's check our results...

(potatoes₁)+(onions₁)=(total₁)

2.500+3.750=6.250

(total₁)-(onions₂)=(onions₁)

(total₁)-x=(onions₁)

6.250-1.600=4.650

4.650 is the quantity of vegetables left.

let me make sure I understand the wording of the problem- it is saying that Rahul bought 2.500 kg of potatoes which is equal to 2500 potatoes- right?  he also bought 3750 onions- right?

at the end he had 4650 kg of veggies left, right?  that would amount to 4,650,000 veggies- right? well he hit the jackpot-- because veggies must have come raining down from the sky--- where did  he get those thousands and thousands of other veggies???
