I need help with fraction converting to a percents

  Percent is simply a ratio. A  ratio, a fraction whose denominator is always 100.

 

    A ratio is a fraction, a division which indicates how many times the numerator of the fraction is greater or smaller than the denominator.

 

       Literal meaning of percent is , out of hundred.

   

          cent the unit of money is really Centidollar , meaning 1/100 of dollar , same as centimeter is 1/100 of

           meter .

 

         So conversion of a number to percentage is same as conversion of dollar to cents.

       

            $ 2 = 2 * 100 / 100 = 200 * 1/00 = 200 c

 

               2 = 2 * 100 / 100 = 200 * 1/100 = 200 %

 

            The  percentage value is greater than 100,  for whole numbers.

 

            Fractions  always converted  them to decimal fraction, and (multiply by 100 by shifting the decimal

           point two place to the right, and insert the % for dividing by 100).

 

           1/4 = 0.25 = 25 %    1/ 3 = 0.33 = 33 %    2/3 = 0. 667 = 66.7 %

 

         Fractions with factors of 100 : 2, 4 , 5, 10, 20, 50,

 

         1/4 = 25/100   1/5 = 20/100   1/20 = 5/100

 

           We make the denominator 100 , by multiplying denominator and numerator by quotient of

      

          hundred to the 2,4,5,10, 20, 25 50 ....

     

            then 25/100 = 25%   4/100 = 0.04 .....

 

             This is just demonstrate equivalency of the procedure.

 

              If we convert to all fractions to decimal numbers, become easier and consistent.

 

               Like in a mixed number:

 

               5 1/4 = 5. 25 = 525 %

 

               Otherwise have to carry a  lot of unnecessary steps

 

                5 1/4 = 21/ 4

 

                  21/ 4 =(21 * 25) / ( 4 * 25) = 525/100 = 525 %

 

       Students  entangle with  a great deal of episode with percentage. Just think of converting dollar to  

        cents , then all those procedure make sense.

There are a few other was to think about fractions to decimals.

 

Always think about the denominator. How can you make it 100.  

 

For example, 13/25.  4*25 gets me to 100.  So if I multiply 25 by 4, then if I multiply 13 by 4, I get 52.  This means my percent will be 52%.  

The same goes for your problem.  50*2 gets you to 100, so multiply 23 by 2 and you get to 46.  Therefore your percent is 46%

 

Now lets say you have a problem where the number does not multiply nicely into 100.  For example, 13/30.  That is not a pretty percent and you will have to round.  You can complete the division of the two numbers:

    _0.433

30|13.000 

     12.0

       1.00

       0.90

       0.100

       0.090

 

and so on... 

                                            _

This gives me a decimal of 0.43.  To make this a percent, you move the decimal 2 spaces to the right to signify the change to a percent and due to the factor change of 100.  100% represents a whole, or one.  0.43 is a part of the whole so it is 43%.

I believe this fraction is 23/50.

100%=1

(23/50)

If we multiply the top and bottom by 2, the bottom number will be 100.

23*2=46

50*2=100

46/100

46%

This is 46%, or 46/100 of the total, or 23/50 of the total.
