Mark reads 42 pages of a book every 3/4 hour. Write an equation that models the relationship between x, the number of hours Mark reads, and y, the number of pages of the book he reads.

The rate at which Mark reads pages is 42 pages per 34 hours. This would be represented as the slope (rate of change)

of 42/34  or reduced to 21/17

 

This is a direct variation relationship because if Marks spends 0 hours reading then 0 pages are read.

 

Therefore the equation is :
