Product of (x-4)(x+2)

Question

I am trying to do this problem and show my work using foil but i think im missing something.

FOIL (First, Outer, Inner, Last)

 

(x-4)(x+2)

(x)(x) + (x)(2) + (-4)(x) + (-4)(2)

x² + 2x -4x - 8

x² - 2x - 8

Answer 2

(x - 4)(x + 2) = x(x + 2) + (-4)(x + 2) = x² + 2x - 4x - 8

 

= x² - 2x - 8
