hello. Was wondering how you simplify. your answer should contain only positive exponents.

Question

1. 2x^-1 times 2x^-4

 

2. 3u^-1 v^0/3u^4

Answer 1

2. 3u^-1 v^0/3u^4

 

(3u^-1v⁰)/(3u⁴) = 3(1)/[3(u)(u⁴)] = 1/u⁵

Note:  x^-n = 1/xⁿ  and vice versa

x^-5 = 1/x⁵

 

1/x⁵ = x^-5

 

1/x^-5 = x⁵

 

and so on

also x⁰=1

(2x^-1)(2x^-4) = 4x^-5 = 4/x⁵

 

The second equation does not make sense
