Math problem

An Opera is to last exactly 3.5 hrs at the beginning of the opera 690 people were in attendance. If 29 people keep entering the opera every 35 minutes and 7 people keep leaving the opera house at 5 minutes. how many people will be in attendance at the end of the opera

Kenneth S.

The word "keep" raises a red flag because it may imply repetition, which raises the question are these the same people who keep leaving but then return?  It sounds as if the performance will be interrupted by all of this activity.  Also, the people leaving do so "at 5 minutes"--this is not the same as "every 5 minutes."

This problem does not seem to be as well worded as it could/should be.

As Kenneth S. mentioned, the wording could be improved.   I assumed the exit criteria was intended to be a rate, similar to the way the number of people entering was specified.
