Question

I want coloring books.  The big coloring books have 100 pages for $8 while the small coloring books have 25 pages for $2. I want to pay $28 and get a total of 650 pages.  How many of each should I buy?  

 

I got no solution,  please help and show work.

Hi Linda,

Let X = number of big coloring books

Let Y = number of small coloring books

From the information given, we can write the following

equations:

100X + 25Y = 650

8X + 2Y = 28

Since these two equations have the same

same slope, they will never intersect and give

us a solution point.

The answer is no solution. You can verify your answer with a graph of the two lines.
