Hi Gabby;

I do not know what # means.  It is my understanding that this is the symbol for number, not any process in an equation.

44x-3x=80

This can also be written as...

x(44-3)=80

41x=80

Let's divide both sides by 41...

(41x)/41=80/41

80/41=1 39/41
