A rowing team rowed 100miles while going with the current in the same amount of time as it took to row 20miles going against the current. The rate of the current was 6miles per hour. What is the rate of the rowing team in still water

S = Rowing Speed, T = Time, D = Distance

Then for the 100 mile row: (S+6)*T = 100

for the 20 mile row (S-6)*T = 20

Solving together: (S+6)/(S-6) = 100/20 or 4S = 36 or S = 9 mph

(T is same for both)
