Word problem Help

Question

Schoter bought 5.2 pounds of kit kats, 9.4 pounds of recese pieces, 3.1 pounds of crunch, and 5 pounds of twizlers. One pound of candy cost $1.00. He had $40 before he bought the candy. How much money does he have left?

Vongenia, I can't see any reason why solving this is any more complicated than adding the weight, and subtracting the result from 40. Even though it's weird to express weight in decimals like 3.1 pounds!

 

The total weight is 22.7, and 40 - 22.7 is 17.3

At $1 per pound the amount left is $17.30
