Either:

       x + 6 = +√20

       x = √20 - 6

       x = 2√5 - 6

 or:

      x = -√20 - 6

      x = -2√5 - 6

 Is   ((2√5 - 6) + 6)² = 20   ?

       (2√5)² = 20   ?

        4*5 = 20   ?

         20 = 20   ?yes

 Is  ((-2√5 - 6) + 6)² = 20   ?

       (-2√5)² = 20   ?

         4*5 = 20   ?

          20 = 20   ?yes
