How many students in the class?

In a class of 'x' students are given 8 sweets each by a teacher she has excess of 9 sweets.when she give one more sweets to each student she has short of 14 sweets So how many students in the class?

9+14=23 students in the class

after giving 8 sweets to each student she has 9 sweets left over

if she gives 9 sweets to each student she runs short by 14 sweets

she used up the 9 extra and then was short 14, so after the first 9 students got the sweets the next 14 students did not get the extra sweet so again 9+14=23 students

 

23*8=184 plus 9 left over for a total of 193 sweets

23*9=207 sweets if she had enough but she was short 14 sweets so 207-14=193
