Hector spent $49.50 at the post office. He bought four times as many $0.49 stamps as $0.29 stamps. 

 

So let x = # of 29 cent stamps; that means he bought 4x times that number, in 49 cent stamps,and the total value is 4950 cents.

 

29x + (4x)49 = 4950

 

225x = 4950

x = 22

 

Hector bought 22 20 cent stamps & 88 49 cent stamps.
