The way I would break down this question in my mind is this: 10% is an easy number to compute. So 10% of $375 is $37.50. That is $375.00, move the decimal over one for 10%, or .1. To get 5% we need to break that number in half (10%/2=5%). So $37.50/2 (and since we are estimating, we will round to an easy whole number) $38/2= $19. So an estimate for Maria's salary increase is $19 a week.
