The area of the square black rug is 8ft x 8ft = 64 square ft

The area of the circle with radius 4 ft is pi (r squared) = pi x 16 = 50.24 ft squared

 

With the circle in the middle, only 64-50.24 ft squared will be black = 13.76 sq ft
