If you connect the opposite corners, you get a diagonal of a right triangle. The two sides of the windowpane make up the legs of the right triangle.
Use the Pythagorean theorem to find the diagonal.
Distance between opposite corners = √((length of windowpane)2 + (width of windowpane)2)
