Hi Alyssa,
The slope of the line is given by [2 - (-1)]/[3/2 - (-4)] = 6/11
Choosing the point (-4, -1) along with the slope to apply the point slope formula results in:
y + 1 = 6/11 (x + 4)
Multiplying both sides of the equation by 11 in order to eliminate the fraction results in:
11y + 11 = 6x + 24
Or,
6x - 11y = -13 (this is the answer that is normally defined as standard form (with the coefficient of x > 0)
But this is OK too and matches one of the choices:
-6x + 11y = 13
Be sure to look up the formulas for finding slope between two points and the point-slope formula for the equation of a line when the slope and a point are known.
