In one hour they count 1/2 and 1/3 respectively of the money
In x hours they count x/2 and x/3 respectively of the money
x/2 + x/ 3 = 1 together they do the 1 job.
Can you solve for x?

Mark M.
x/2 + x/3 = 1
3x + 2x = 6 multiply both sides by LCD, 6
5x = 6 combine like terms
x = 6/5 divide both sides by 5
Working together they need one hour twelve minutes.
PS. If you have not taken Algebra why are you posting an Algebra style problem?
