Hi Nicole-
Instead of giving you the answer, I'd like to give you a similar question with different numbers.
$8 per session to rollerblade, $6 per session for safety equipment rental, $115 new rollerblades, $227 total.
Define variables:X
X = number of rollerblading sessions
Write an equation that can be used to find the number of sessions:
Reason: For each session, you need to pay to rollerblade and pay for renting the safety equipment.
So each session costs:
8X + 6X
You have a 1-time expense of $115 for the new rollerblades.
So the equation is:
8X + 6X + 115 = 227
Combine like terms.
14X + 115 = 227
Combine line terms.
14x = 112
Solve for X
X = 8
He took 8 rollerblading sessions.
Does that help you?
Best regards.
Bob
