I think you are supposed to evaluate variable expression, for a certain given value of the variable quantity.

 

   i,e,   Y =5

 

          12( 5 ) =60

        Y =2

        

      12( 2) = 24

 

        Y =125

       12( 125) = 1500

 

       Variable quantity can take multiple values, that relationship between the variable and the expression is given by equation.
