A silo is a structure that is shaped like a right circular cylinder with a half sphere on top. The surface area S of a silo of height h and radius r? (including the area of the? base) is given by the polynomial equation Sequals=2piπrhplus+piπrsquared2.
Note that h is the height of the entire silo.

The equation of surface are you have given is only for the cylinder.  You have to include the area of the hemisphere as well.  So your surface area should be

 

SA of silo = SA of cylinder + SA of hemisphere

SA of silo = (πr² + 2πrh) + 2nr²    ---->  πr² represents the circular base area

SA of silo = 3πr² + 2πrh

 

 

For second part, use the bolded SA equation from the first part to find the area using the given values:

 

h = 66.75 in

r = 0.5 in
