if a simple algebraic equation you isolate e by subtracting 12.2 from both sides. e = 27.8
if an exponential equation with an exponent variable such as
e^x + 12.2 = 40
then subtract 12.2 from btoh sides to place in BEN form Base Exponent Number
e^x = 27.8
then take the ln of both sides
ln[e^x] = ln[27.8]
x = ln[27.8] (a calculator problem)
