A ski resort ofees a super saver pass for $90 dollars that allows you to buy lift tickets at half price. If you buy the oass, the cost ( on dollars ) of buying x tickets is 90 + 22.5x otherwise the cost is 45x dollars. How many lift tickets would a skier have to buy for the two costs to be equal?

To solve, set each expression equal to each other:

 

90 + 22.5x = 45x

90 = 22.5x

4 = x

 

A skier would have to buy 4 lift tickets in order for the two costs to be equal.
