you can substitute the info you're given for the length and solve for the width

278 =   2(89+w)     + 2w

278 =  178 + 2w    + 2w

278 =  178 + 4w               (combine like terms}

-178   -178

100 = 4w

/4      /4

25 = w

 

now use that info to solve for l

278 = 2l + 2(25)

278 = 2l + 50

-50          -50

228 = 2l

/2      /2

114 = l
