The area (in square feet) that will be painted in each room is 12 ft x 16 feet and is 8 feet high (otherwise, you don't want to stay here).

 

The area to be painted in each room is:

     ceiling:   12 ft * 16 ft   =  192 ft²

    two walls:     2 * ( 8 ft * 12 ft )   = 192 ft²

    two walls:     2 * ( 8 ft * 16 ft )   =  256 ft²

 So, a total of 640 ft² for each room.

 

For 20 rooms, that is:

       20 * 640 ft² =  12800 ft².

 

Now, you need to divide this value by the number of square feet that each gallon will paint to get the number of gallons.

     [note:   ft² / (ft²/gal) = gal  ]

You need to find the total square footage of the walls of one room, multiply that by the number of rooms and then divide that by the number of square feet one gallon of paint will cover.  Draw out the room in order to get an ideal of the walls.  You have been given the measurements for two different quadrilaterals in each room.  Remember each room has four walls.
