Simon says: " Five times my age 4 years ago is the same as 3 times my age in 2 years" How old is Simon now?

I am completely lost, I have tried multiple times to solve this problem, and have not yet come up with a feasible answer.

a - 4 represents Simon's four years ago.

a + 2 represents Simon' age two years from now

 

5(fours years ago) = 3(age in two years)

5(a - 4) = 3(a + 2)

 

Can you solve for "a?"

 Let your age right now be x

 

5(X-4) which is 5 times your age four years ago

 

the second expression would be

 

3(X + 2)

 

5(X-4) = 3(X+2)

 

5x - 20 = 3x + 6

 

2x = 26

 

x = 13

 

now substitute and check your solution

 

5(13-4) = 3(13+2)

 

45 = 45

Simon is 13 years old right now.
