Question

Two cell divisons per day implies that the number of cell divisions in ( T ) days is 2*T cell divisons. This means that the equation we can use is C(T) = 10*2^2*T   for T days. How many days will it take to reach 3000 cells/ml ? Use logrithms to find this?

 C(t) = 10( 2^( 2t) ) 

 

  10 ( 2 ^(2t) ) = 3000

 

 

    2 ^ (2t) = 300

 

    2t log 2 = log 300

 

    2t = log 300 = 8.23

            log 2

    

     t =  8.23 = 4.11 days

Good question!  First of all, I wanna note that usually the ^ sign (hold shift and press 6) is normally used to describe exponents, not the asterisk *.  So you should say that the number of cell divisions in (T) days is 2^T cell divisions.

 

Second, it's difficult to understand your equation.  Did you mean C(T) = 10 * 2^T ? The problem can't be correctly solved unless that is made clear.
