Start with what you know. You know that he ended up with $15. Included in that $15 is the extra $8 he earned. Start there and go backwards.
In Algebraic terms: 15 - 8 = 1/2A
Let's start on the left where we don't have any messy variables. What is 15 - 8? 15-8 = $7. He has $7 after he spent half of his weekly allowance on clothes. So his allowance must be $7 doubled! In logical terms, 7 x 2, which is 14
Or, in Algebra-speak: (7 = 1/2A) Remember that to (find the value of A/isolate A as a variable), you have to multiply both sides by the inverse of the fraction that it's multiplied by. 7x2=A. The answer is 14.
