It  is  a  multiplication  sorry  for  not  making  that  clear. I  was  having  a  debate  with  an  older  gentleman  over  the  question  and  I  keep  telling  him  the  answer  is 9 but  he  is  now  telling  me  to  use  the  distributive  property  or  something  like  that  and  it  makes  it 1. 1 is  incorrect  right  distributive  property  isn't  how  you  solve  correct?

Correct. This is not the method you would use in this equation. The answer is not 1. Hope this helps! If you need English, Regents, SAT help let me know! I'm new to the site and yet to tutor a student :-)
