They are the same if the x in the second equation is for multiplication and not a variable. Is the x a variable in the second equation?

First compute parenthesis and then left to right (for multiply and divide.)

 

Answer 1 is valid only if the parenthesis are explicitly specified.

 

This is an example of ambiguity. Use parenthesis whenever there is ambiguity and question can interpreted in more than one way.

 I think this two equation is the same

 

6 ÷ 2 (1+2) = 6 ÷ 2 × 3 = 3× 3 = 9

 

6÷2 x (1+2) = 6 ÷ 2 × 3 = 3× 3 = 9

 

while the below one is different from the above two

 

6÷(2(1+2))=6 ÷ (2 × 3) = 6 ÷ 6 = 1
