The next building is the gazebo that will be in the shape of a regular hexagon. (What does regular mean?) Each side will be 5x + 21

a) Write the expression that represents the perimeter of the gazebo, in terms of x.
b) If the perimeter is going to be 36 feet, what are the dimensions of the building?

"Regular" means that all sides of the polygon are the same length.

 

A)  A hexagon has 6 sides.  Thus,

 

     Perimeter = 6(5x + 21)

                    = 30x + 126

 

B)  Since the perimeter is 36, and each side is the same measurement,

     We divide the perimeter by 6 to obtain each side measure. 

 

     36 ÷ 6 = 6
