Solve the equation

(√6x+7) +3 = x+5

Jason L.

(√6x+7) +3 = x+5
√6x + 10 = x+5
(√6x)^2 = (x-5)^2
6x = x^2 - 10x +25
0 = x^2 - 16x + 25

Now solve using the quadratic equation.

16 -/+ √(-16^2 - 4(1)(25)    /   2(1)
16 -/+ √156 / 2
16 -/+ √(4*39) / 2
16-/+ 2√39  / 2
8 -/+ √39

Check that this was the correct formula.  If it was not, please use parenthesis to indicate what the actual equation was.
