ON A PARTICULAR DAY, 2/15TH OF THE TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN A SCHOOL WERE ABSENT. IF 1950 WERE PRESENT ON THAT DAY ,FIND THE TOTAL STRENGHT OF THE SCHOOL.

if 2/15 were absent, then 13/15 were present

 

Let N = number of total students

 

(13/15)N = 1950

 

N = 1950/(13/15)

 

N = 2250

Answer 2

13x/15=1950                     (the amount of student present)

 

Multiply both sides by 15 to get rid  of the fraction

 

15 (13x/15) =1950 x15

 

=13x=29,250

 

x=2,250  (total strength of the school)
